I bought a 240SX!
You sure will be saying that I am wrong in the head, that because I do not buy a 180sx knowing that it is better car than a 240sx, etc etc ...
Calm down and let me tell you why ...
First, I wanted something cheap, I do not mind mistreating it because it will be my winter car, and the 180sx are very expensive to use them that way, they are above 6k for sure, besides that this car was from a friend who has an obsession with the 240sx or any USDM S-Chassi, because he thinks the same way as me and thinks it's a better option in terms of money, besides he likes to grab these little-loved 240sx and do crazy things with them with less money ...
Second: As I said, this car was a friend, he is a shell of a s13 USDM, here not worth close to their counterparts JDM, this USDM shell bought for 1750 $, so it was a good savings that allowed me use the rest of the money in the engine that will put you, that will show you soon ...
And third: I wanted something different within what are the S-Chassis, I wanted to import a 200sx, but several have rust problems, it would cost a lot to import them and I would not leave much money to do things to the car, what's more, I was about to buy a 200SX S13, with the CA18DET that Nightrunner's uncle had in his lot, but that car had problems in the engine, it was imported from Russia and it was stopped for around two years, besides it had a good amount of rust. It was in good price, but I preferred not to buy it because I had several problems and with the little money that I would not be able to do anything and I would keep a paperweight of 4000 dollars. But out of nowhere I remembered my friend, who is always with several s13 and s14, the majority were 240's, and I sure would have one that he would use for a project but he never had time to do anything to him, I went to his workshop, we talked , we had some beers and I asked him if he had some 240 that he wanted to sell, and he showed me this car that they see now, I asked the price, I lowered it a little and the car was already mine ...
Well, I'll proceed to give you the details of this car ...
This is a 1989 Nissan 240SX S13, Imported from California several years ago, the previous owner (previous to my friend who was the one who imported it) had the old KA24E with a turbo kit and several little things that made it a bit more 260hp, but you see that when changing the head gasket, put several joints to lower the compression, but put sealer, too much sealant, I end up plugging the water pipes, overheated and out of nowhere big shaq attacks and, *boom*, goodbye KA24E-T
My friend bought it from the previous owner about 4 years ago and imported it to Japan, he thought about doing a RB Swap or something like that, but he ran out of time and had other more important projects, which made this car stay there thrown ...
The car has some coilovers, quite cheap really, they are quite worn, need a change, stock brakes, stock 4 lug setup, wheels without brand or model forward, teadrops back (16'inch), momo handwheel, kouki tails, and some little thing ...
I bought it for $ 1750, quite cheap in my opinion, but you will say, you need the engine, what engine will you get? , etc etc ...
Easy, I have that covered ...
A K20A2! This is the engine that will have the 240!
This engine was a DC5 Type-S, but the previous owner made some modifications to place it in a Silvia S13, which helps me enough to put it in my hatch.
I was researching the k-series and looking for the specifications and prices, but first I looked for prices and there were several prices and engine codes, so I had to look for the specs, and end up grabbing the most powerful version, which was not the type- r, the K20A2, because the K20 of the type-r were very expensive and had between 10 and 20hp more than the K20A2 of the DC5 Type-S, so it was not worth much, so I ended up with the K20A2 with the I'm very happy ...
As this engine was designed for FWD applications, the previous owner had to modify it to place it in his Nissan Silvia S13, and those modifications will help me to put it to my 240SX, since they are the same chassis, so it is almost ready to be placed!
This engine has a custom sump, because the sump for FWD applications was hard to make it enter, so the previous owner placed this custom sump for the RWD application that was used and will be used with this engine.
It also has a Honda Racing intake for RWD applications, the stock fuel rail with stock injectors, it also has a 4-2-1 RWD Exhaust manifold.
Also this engine was converted to RWD, but didn't use the typical gearbox of the S2000, for two reasons, they are expensive and quite fragile, and the previous owner of this engine converted it to rwd with a kit of "K-Miata" coupling a 5-speed or 6-speed BMW ZF gearbox (in this case 5-speed gearbox), with its adapter plate, flywheel, clutch and all its components, except the driveshaft, because it has another measure to what is needed for this project, because a driveshaft made for a k-swap in a miata is not the same as the one needed for the same swap in a 240-200-180SX-Silvia (s13/s14/s15), so we will need a custom-made driveshaft, but the advantage of this conversion is that these gearboxes are cheaper and more robust, so if we were to put a turbo to this small K20, this gearbox would support much more than the S2K gearbox
The rest is practically stock, the engine included everything, even the engine mounts and the wire harness with the ecu and up to the ignition drum of the DC5 and the stock key, the engine came with all the necessary parts to make the swap, except the driveshaft that I have to order custom.
How much the engine with all the parts cost? $ 1850, VERY GOOD PRICE for a Used RWD converted K20A2 with all the parts for the swap!
I'm excited! This 240sx with this engine will run like a champion in a very short time!
Stay Tuned! See you later!
Finances:
Starting Money : 6080 V$
Paycheck : + 470 V$
240SX : -V$ 1750
K20A2 with all the parts for the swap : -V$ 1850
6080 + 4700 - 1750 - 1850 = 2950
