First of all, read the rules here. It'll give you some basic insights on what you should (or shouldn't) do when making an RP.

To save a bit of effort, there are two kinds of RP, the normal one and the salary-based one. The normal one throws away the economy/monetary factor, so budget isn't really a concern here and you can build your cars easier. The salary-based meanwhile adds economy/monetary factor for extra realism and challenge, though this would pave a way for creativity if you know how to get around it.

To differ the common ones from the salary-based ones, the salary-based ones has V$ on the start of their RP thread title.

Composition/writing-wise, it's all depends on you really. You can simply write some lines of simple story to tell your progress or write a veeeeeeery long story that could be compiled to be a literature (though not literally). It's okay if your English isn't really good, since we know not everyobody in the world is fluent in English.

One thing that should be emphasized (though the word 'emphasized' in this context is a bit harsh) on your RP is realism, or simply common sense. This isn't FnF where you can get lots of overnight parts from Japan and install it right away, but in most cases a half or one week of parts delivery is acceptable. Also normally we don't think of Ferraris or Lambos as RP starter car (mainly for salary-based ones), to make it even more simple.

In return, you don't have to have your RP self located in the same location as your real world self. For example, a lot of us aren't Japanese or American but lots of us chose anywhere around Japan or USA as our RP location. But obviously there are also some that has their RP location the same as their real world self.

Top tip on salary-based RPs: Try to check the real world prices, whether if it's for cars or parts. This would help you maintain and enhancing realism and could be a benefit on your economy planning and/or RP composition as well. For example, an S-Chassis in Japan or Europe could be cheaper than you would think. Or as the other way around, you might find bodykit set more expensive than you thought. Or you might find a part has to be sourced outside your RP location, ordered upon requestn or even worse, unavailable/discontinued.

In the end though, it's your own RP, so make it to your taste and pour your creativity as far as you could. The good thing of VS RP is it's personal, so you can compose and decorate it as you like it. A bit of a tip: In-depth build details are highly appreciated to most people, though if you can't you don't have to.

If you're looking for some examples, I've sorted the threads here acording to the most recently updated ones if you want to see a variety of examples, or here is one sorted by amount of posts to see the really, really high quality and/or popular ones.

Some members also has links to their RPs in their siggy, mine for example (a bit of warning: I don't mean to flex/boast but every single of my update is veeeeeery long and detailed, but it could be a good example), so you can refer to them quickly.

That's all I could say for now, I've tried to make this as simple as possible so I hope you could quickly understand it. In the end though, feel free to make it as you wish and good luck composing your RP! ;)

EDIT: Adittionally, when you introduce yourself for the first time, feel free to use your full real name (as I did), a part of your real name (for example nicknames or acronyms as most of us here did), or a fictional alias. Check the examples I've referred to if you don't really get it. Also, your RP age doesn't have to match your real world self as well, or you can simply ignore your RP age. Some of our RP self are 2-6 years older than our real world self.

It's been explained there and I've also actually explained it as well. You can buy parts from the shop here, or you can simply check the real world price from various real world websites then insert it into your RP (no, you don't actually have to purchase the part in real world. Just see the price and write it on your RP)

The store that Big Smoke talks about is in Forums>Roleplay Area>Shops % Classifields.
This is really useful because a lot of people also want the part that you are looking for (most of the times).
After you "purchased" the part, write it on your RP and that's it !
For example, let's buy a RB26 engine from ebay.
It costs around 6k, so you should write :
your money - part's price = what you have left
So for example
17 000 $ - 6000 $ = 11 000 %

that's about it ! if you want some more info, dm me or just write here.
My favorite tool - hammer.
My least favorite car - Hummer.
When my engine blows up - bummer.
My favorite season - summer.

My favorite car - AE86.

(i mean really, love these overpriced old pieces of junk <3)
