Copypasted from FB.
Long story short. In 1998 my parents bought this bike to my brother for his class advancement(from secondary school to high school), after some years he has stopped using it so became somehow mine. I ever used it till one day that i started having healt problems and had to do hospital-home for 1 year and 6 months so the bike started rusting(since it was in my garden). I leaved it that way till one year ago that i finally started working on it. I started removing every part and trying to clean a bit from rust. Had some problems with the seatpost, it was rusted as f* so was like welded togheter with the frame. After some hard work i leaved around the 50% of it(nowadays there is no sign of its presence), then when i saw that parts was too expensive, i leaved the frame inside my workshop waiting the right moment to restart it. Finally had the money to buy parts, i started again sanding the body, but that way i would have needed months to make it properly, so i decided to get it from the nearest sanding company. Just few hours after sanding, those bitches did a crap of work, it looked like shot-peened so i had to do the work i tried to not do to remove the paint from it... -.-" one week or so with sand paper till i got it smooth as a baby ass. Finally some epoxy paint, i did it in two times, basicly i gived one layer of paint, sanded with uberfine paper then another layer. You can also see my custom horn handlebar in that box behind frame. First hand of primer filler. Sanded to make it smoother. Detail of the sanding work. Second hand of primer filler(next will be the actual paint). Finally my groupset(transmission) and brakes arrived!! It is the whole shimano acera matte black set. I ordered my fork, a suntour xct v2, after a week it has been delivered in my workshop and i was like "this is not an xct v2" then i watched on the box and big surprise, they sent me an xct v3(bigger stanchions and compatible with lockout). Random pic of the fork. Comparison between old and new. Got the last package with pedals(alluminium monoblock by wellgo), stem, stem adaptor, headset(ahead canecreek) and tools for BB(for nubz, bottom braket, is the bearing group for crankset) and cassette everything sold branded as xlc(that actually dont produce a single crap, only rebrand stuff from pro makers). All the stuff togheter. A model i did to have an idea about the pj, i will keep only the little shimano write on the rear fork. Today i bought paint. Opposite than how the paint shop guy said me the past time, they didnt know the right mix to make lamborghini giallo orion, so i had to be happy with a lotus yellow pearl(base metallic color + 2 transparent metallic layers ). Only problem was price, way too damn high. I also did some job on the handlebar horn, i had to sand it again(with sandpaper) and give some epoxy primer. Next to do on it will be sand it with fine paper(1200), put some thin layer of filler and paint matte black. Next steps are: - Brake cables(with sheath and nipples) - Seatpost - Seatpost lock - Seat - Wheels - Handlebar rubber not necessarily in this order. Tomorrow morning i will start painting :3 |

Shimano?.. more like Shima! No!!! xD could've gone with Sram which is a lot better and the prices are pretty much about the same but anywho you've done a great job.
You're gonna go with V-brakes or discs? |

Sram costs 3 times shimano, and quality is pretty much the same..
about brakes, i never understood the need of disks on bikes(and so i bough myself a set of v-brakes), if you give a look to speed bikes, they have cantilever brakes and not disks. so seems obvious that if you do not need a disk for a bike which reach over 60km/h, you need it even less on a bike that mostly will go on rocks at 15-20km/h. im waiting to see when bike factories will start installing underframe neons, everyone will need them to go faster(+20hp) Added 58 seconds later: anyway suggestions are welcome Added 1 day later: Had no time to do anything else today nor yesterday, so i painted my horn bar in those 5 spare minutes. Also today the membrane of my air compressor broke randomly, so tomorrow i have to take a new one. -.-" This post was edited by Bigg Boss93 (2013-07-16 21:05, ago) |

Wednesday i got a brand new set of handle knobs, same model of the old one. Same day i bought black paint. Finally today i had some time after work to spend on it, so me and my father just covered parts that hadnt to be black and started painting. ps: poopy pictures from phone, sorry. Added 16 hours 58 minutes later: Today after last fixes to black paint(checked every part and fixed every issue). And without paper. Right now my father is giving it the transparent so tomorrow will be ready to be assembled. C: Opinions?! This post was edited by Bigg Boss93 (2013-07-27 11:58, ago) |

# Bigg Boss93 :i know that with this much i could have bought a decathlon bike(as JC and some other people suggested me), but i just love that frame and the horn handlebar(steel frame and that handlebar are something you cant find anymore)First of all, thanks for the answers. I'm planning to restore my MTB too(a crappy model like this),and a lot of people said that it's worthless to spend money on it. But i had it since I was 13(now i'm 18) and i love this bike. So,no matter what they say, bring that MTB back to life. Keep up the good work. *Sorry for my english,it's not so good* |

Some pics i forgot to post:
BB installed. Prepared the operating room to install crankset... ...and front v-brakes. Detail of the crankset with pedals. The bike as how was sitting till today. Added 3 minutes later: Aaaaaand the only good thing to be back to work. Added 1 hour 11 minutes later: Installing cassette. Installed in 20 secs. Tubes and tires in, only needs air, i forgot that presta valve(italian type) is not compatible with air compressor terminal, so i must do the job with classic air pump. xD This post was edited by Bigg Boss93 (2013-08-19 10:40, ago) |

i answer you about those parts you'd change:
i bought a comfortable seat, i like get my whole ass back home ;D bars are not street purposed, they were even higher when it was stock(i'll upload a pic later) because are meant to keep you body highest possible while going downhill, and for same reason i used grips(and also because i dislike use gloves) im sure you would apreciate it better trying |

# Bigg Boss93 : i answer you about those parts you'd c amount of padding doesn't = comfy.. i have 10mm of padding on my seat and its comfy with no suspension grips/bar tape make no difference, the only thing is it looks better and feels batter :o |

never had problems with this rubber, just take progrip stuff and you'll be sure to not have any either ;D
First pic outside my workshop, unfortunately there was already almost no more sun light... today i'll try to take one before gets dark, maybe even using the camera instead of phone. ;D Added 6 hours 48 minutes later: Still needs a clean This post was edited by Bigg Boss93 (2013-08-21 20:55, ago) |

I'm just back from a downhill, and shizzle happened there was a road full of houses wreckage, at a certain point i heard a bad sound, that was a metal pipe(4mm diameter) got in the middle of my rear wheel and left side of rear fork D:
Now repeat with me: Never ride your custom MTB off road lol This post was edited by Bigg Boss93 (2013-09-21 17:13, ago) |
