Hi!

since i got my Miata for a while now i'd thought let's make a build thread.

so let's get started! i'll make the first post with clickety links since i've got a lot of pictures and i don't want to drain your internet.

A while back i bought a stock Miata for a fair price, the soft top was pretty bad but it had a pretty decent paint with 137k km on the clock, minimum rust and a MOMO wheel and knob, i was gonna use it as a daily until i remembered how much fun i had drifting the previous one!

*LINK*

*LINK*

first upgrades i made were a new soft top, a new shifting knob from D1 Spec(weighted one for easier shifting), D1 Spec lug nuts Black and a set of 13 inch "Mangles Type 2" kinda like steelies but Chrome. yeah i know they're small but so cheap i couldn't resist it.

*LINK*

after that i bought a new massive mirror, tow hooks and swapped the QSP 70MM Dish wheel from my corolla.

*LINK*

*LINK*

a new set of turn signal lights, smoked and with orange light bulbs

*LINK*

now the money spending started, i bought a D1 spec coilover set with Stiffness setting (34 clicks) and installed them with a friend, pain in the ass job but the results were great! the car improved so much in handling

*LINK*

*LINK*

TRACK DAY BRO! first time with the new setup on the track and man she was flying, i've been pushing a lot of 2 liter cars, an Opel Speedster GT and some BMW's, LIGHTWEIGHT BRO! had a blast that day, first time on a real track and i wanted more and more.

*LINK*

Better view of the wheels and Recycle people!

*LINK*

then the day i've been waiting for finally came, the first drift day where i could really test the ability of the car and it went great! she listened most of the time to what i wanted to do but i lacked the skills to do more tricky stuff like inertia and linking the corners but i also still have an open differential which makes it harder to do low speed drifts.

*LINK*
DORIFTO YO
*LINK*

*LINK*

i bought a Volt, Oil Temp and Vacuum meter because race car!(oil temp isn't setup yet as i still need a sandwich plate for it, pain in the ass to get it setup right with all the wires and shit! >:(

*LINK*

Road trip time!
i took a roadtrip with 40 other cars through The Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourgh and Germany with many different roads, from long stretches to short hairpin corners, kinda like Initial D roads eventually and made some maaaaaaaaad skids. eventually we ended up at the Nürburgring for a lap around it and i was scared as hell. if you've driven it you'll probably relate with me. it was raining badly, i had almost bald tires with 3.0 Bar in it and it was the first time i drove it BUT! non the less i enjoyed every single second of it, the track was slippery but i didn't really mind because i was able to drift pretty easy!

*LINK*

*LINK*

*LINK*

Inside view!

the next week i went with a mate to France in his Civic for a few days with my car safely on the driveway, but the rain back home was pretty intense and when i got back home my trunk was a small pool that could've had some fish in it. the trunk rack was just bolted on and the heavy rain ran straight past the bolts into my trunk so i searched and found a Miata trunk with brake light in faded red(side note: the Mazda mx-5 sold here did not have a third brake light, they don't call those a Miata here those are just the American imports, Jap imports are the Eunos Roadster), we painted it black as a temporary option and fitted it.

*LINK*

and finally i bought a new exhaust pipe the old one was rotten and leaked on several spots, SK Imports pipe form Titanium, bought it from a friend who didn't like the noise and the fact that it melted his rear bumper, i don't really care about that since it's a drifter and i'll fix it with zipties and duct tape :awesome:

LOUD NOISES! no exhaust pipe yo!

*LINK*

and the last thing we did was make the car real JDM YO.
we bought 2 large Spray cans, 1 in high gloss black and one in white, some tape for some mad shapes and started to work on it, first we made it black again, then we started placing the tape in the right place, blocked the parts that didn't needed to be resprayed again with news papers and started painting with white.

Rising Sun trunk yo!

*LINK*

*LINK*

i'll update this thread as things move forward, up until now i just have a TR Lane roll cage ordered.

Not that anyone gives a flying fuck but i really don't care about that.

Finally the cage arrived and fitted it this afternoon, took us 4 and a half hours of cursing, cutting out chassis parts and drilling holes but it's finally in!

The car feels much stiffer and such driftable, less chassis movement in the corners and it looks awesome!

Whoa man, dunno how i missed this thread, looks sick! I must say i loved the chromed steelies more than these new wheels, but they needed bigger tyres. Cant wait to see more! :awesome:

i'll get a good one tomorrow!

@BB, lmao to be honest i kinda sit like crap in it, since the cage is in i can't lean the seat back as far as i used to so bucket seats it is!
i'm 1.69m and i can see underneath it but my mate is 1,80 plus minus and he has to duck to look underneath the mirror xD
the 13 inch wheels are to small now, i scrape the exhaust mount with every bump.

Low profile tires all the way! Less roll on them for a better feel when drifting imo :awesome:

as requested some better pictures!

195/50's + 50psi (3~bar) = easy drifts and a bit better look.

Just get you a little compressor to take to the track or where ever you're sliding and add air. No big deal.

These are 195/45 on the rear and 195/40 on the front, 2.3 bar in them and they slide good enough, as mentioned before i need some money for the rims i want, waiting to sell my other car and i can get them.

Small update, i sold my Corolla :( BUT! I now have more moneyzzzzzzz
so first thing i did was service the car, new oil, filter, Sandwichplate with oil temp sensor, new drive belt kit and new coolant. I bought a set of rare ATS 70514 rims! Gonna pick them up this thursday, pop some tires under it and wait for winter to pass.
Well they're going under the car for Racing Expo(Indoor car show) but it won't be driven outside yet.

got a drift day the 13th so that'll be fun and recorded :awesome:

Looks like there aren't much people that care but whatever.

Got my money back from the old exhaust and bought another one. Great sound, a lot deeper and more growly, also got a new set op sparky cables! My car was running on 3 cilinders when i floored it from low RPM which is now fixed. Next up is a new 4-2-1 Exhaust manifauld and it should start to spit flames! Also need a new set of drift tires :awesome:

There are rules, but you can go pretty far.
Xtreme Budget Build Setup
- ASUS P8H61-I

Awesome BB!

@JC basically yeah, spoilers are a pain to drive with, can't stick outside the car, on height or wideness with no sharp edges, mounts can't be from metal.
exhausts are alright aslong as they'r not insanely loud, shakotan style isn't a good idea haha, engine swaps can be done as long as you got the papers for it. You should look up the dutch RAT style cars. They're ridiculous.

does that affect your insurance then? for example in uk, add anything non standard to car and you gotta declare it, if you don't = no insurance, no insurance = ban, fine and retest

Nope, engineswaps that are registered might change your insurance, but overall nothing affects the insurance.

Tho, cars like the mx5 are cars that belong to the sportscar category in terms of insurance making prices high and insuring one at a young age harder, when i tried to insure my 320i they did a double check of my insurance history because BMW + RWD which put them in a high risk group.

What's up fuckers! New update!

I bought a 4-2-1 exhaust manifold from stainless steel! It was pretty easy to install.
We removed the air intake box, removed the 8 bolts/nuts that went into the engine to hold the exhaust manifold, detached it from the exhaust, removed the lamdasone sensor(or whatever it's called :p ) took out the manifold, removed the dirt and stuff from the engine where the manifold would be placed and placed the new manifold back. We then added 30cm of wire to the sensor and placed it back, since it's relocated we had to do that and tadaaa. Ready to go!
Took her out for a test drive and she's shooting flames like hell! Also got a present, a new shiftknob from my mate and i couldn't stop laughing when i installed it and turned it on! Check the link for that :awesome: ordered new drift tires so they'll be replaced soon too!

On a full tank (60 liters) i do atleast 650-700km and 54euro road tax each month and 28euro insurance. So, I'd say they are very similair in cost. But at the end of the day a wagon is a lot more car :P.

Also, are you planning some engine upgrades? maybe mazda 323 1.6 turbo engine? (its the same engine) or something else?
