Believe me mk4's especialy tdi ones in Lithuania are usualy 5minutes away from death, in ~3months half of the engine and suspension had to be rebuild, previous owner instead fixing things like leaks used random bath sealer, in time i owned civic all I had to change was dizzy cap since old one had crack in it. My first car was a eg civic and only thing better in golf was the sound insulation
