In this guide i will explain all the basics on SLRR(street legal racing redline) modding like how to install cars, how to install parts, how to find errors and which version to choose from.

Lets start with the versions of the game - thanks to onedownone2go

Game Version

2.2.1. stock

+ all javas available (this only counts if you want to mod javas yourself

- only few car-add-ons available
- no add-on tracks
- bad memory management
- bad gfx-performance (compared to other versions)
- not compatible with add-ons for other versions
- no automatic conversion-tool available

2.2.1 MWM

+ many add-on cars available
+ many add-ons available in general
+ addon-tracks available
+ opponent-races or races against the clock on several addon-tracks
+ memory-management fixed
+ improved gfx-performance
+ can run in windowed mode

- not all javas available for modders
- does not support 2.3.0LE-add-ons natively
- no migration-tool for add-ons from other versions available
- less eye-candy then 2.3.0LE

2.2.1 LE2MWM

+ many add-on cars available
+ many add-ons available in general
+ addon-tracks available
+ opponent-races or races against the clock on several addon-tracks
+ memory-management fixed
+ improved gfx-performance
+ can run in windowed mode
+ support for 2.3.0LE-add-ons included
+ no conversion of add-ons needed (except you want to stick with the catalog-structure of MWM)

- not all javas available for modders
- less eye-candy then 2.3.0LE

BB93 SLRR 2015(2.2.1MWM)

+ most recent and official VStanced.com version
+ it has all the base 2.2.1MWM features(read above)
+ all javas available for modders
+ supports 2.3.0LE mods with the addition of LE2BB93
+ improved stability
+ improved gfx
+ more eye-candy than any previous version

- requires a base SLRR modding knowledge

2.3.0LE

+ many add-on cars available
+ many add-ons available in general
+ memory-management fixed
+ improved gfx-performance
+ toool for automatic conversion of add-ons available (B.O.R.A.T. 1.0)
+ has lot's of eye-candy

/ extensively modified GUI - that's a matter of taste, but it can be modified to match your personal needs

- not all javas available for modders
- no add-on tracks
- does not support windowed mode (or I did not find the option .. ;-) )

- Out of my personal experience i would recommend using version 2.2.1MWM which supports all the extra tracks and new mods are also made for it instead of the other versions.

Error Finding

Ok the problem with errors mainly is people installing 10's or more mods all at once then they mix up and can't find what actually causes the game to crash at certain parts so the main way to prevent the errors is installing mod-by-mod this means you install a single mod be it wheels/engines/cars and go test the game out like dealers, catalogues and checking that the mod is self is working correctly

to find an error log in case you get some random but rare crashes you will need to locate to the game directory - the game directory is where your game is installed for e.g. x/program files/activision/street legal racing redline/ the "street legal racing redline" folder will be the root directory for game files.

the file you need to take a look in case of crash is "error.log" you can open it with notepad

for e.g.

!Package conflict: multiple packages placed at the same location ( at cars\racers\eunos_data\scripts)

this is a line from the error.log file what you can see in here is that the EUNOS mod causes the package conflict and you can actually see where it is located so if you want to remove the error you will need to delete the mod or find the problem - always check the downloads comments/the download it self for fixes :)

sometimes though you will find errors in your error log even if the game is not crashing so you might as well just ignore them :) - if you get mixed up with a bunch of errors simply select all the text in the error.log file, delete it and save it once the error happens again you will find the exact problem

there is chance that the error will not be displayed in the error log if you get this its best to think of a problematic mod.. like mod with parts missing/not renamed etc as those modders normally don't bother with javas and making the game work properly for everyone

Installing Parts/Cars/Engines etc

CARS

now lets say you downloaded a Nissan GTR from vstanced and you extract the archive on your desktop and inside the folder you find 2 files - one will be a folder called gtrvspec_data and other will be a file called gtrvspec.rpk

these two "bits" will need to be copied to root/cars/racers folder

so you will be copying both folder and the file to that directory after that you will be done with installation of the mod - now go to test it out ;)

Parts

Similiar like cars except they have their own directory in game folder called "parts" you normally get a "read me" file with the mod you download which contains all the info you need like the installation path so for rims you will need to drag and drop the folder and the .rpk file to the Parts directory and it should be installed - ignore the "parts/wheels" folder that is rarely if ever used for mods :)

Tracks
Tracks only work with 2.2.1 MWM and LE2MWM patches they DO NOT WORK with 2.3.0 LE :) once you open the archive you will normally have a folder and an rpk - same as cars and other mods. what you need to do is to copy these 2 files(.rpk and folder) to ROOT/Maps/Addon_maps/ folder. After copying them over just start up your game and once you go for a test drive you will be able to choose which track to drive on - some tracks will have options like opponents/no opponents/drift scores etc(rest of the info will be in download description or READ ME file of the download)

Engines

same as Wheels they go into parts folder except that you need to copy them to the sub-folder - engines

so again you will have a folder and a .rpk file ready after you extract the mod these files will need to be copied to root/parts/engines folder

most of the cars will not accept your engine to install so you will need to use "SLREditor" to use the engines with the cars you want - download HERE the application is easy to use so i won't be explaining more about it, you can also use it to place the parts like batteries, wheels, engines and so on :)

Replacing files

replacing files can be DANGEROUS because you might have a messed up file and your game won't work after that :) the good thing to do is install slrr again in a different directory patch it to the main version of your MAIN game for e.g. 2.2.1mwm and keep it completely clean without mods so incase of loosing a file you can simply copy and paste over your main game.

always make a backup too if you can't be bothered to install another SLRR

Thank you for the help, it was clear and concise, I downloaded the 2.2.1 LE2MWM version and installed and downloaded a bunch of stuff and have been trying to install it, it hasn't worked yet but I tend to be stubborn and don't give up so will keep trying. Using your directions I feel confident that I can figure it out. Glad you all put up a section for us noobs.

This tutorial makes adding downloaded cars to any SLRR version so simple! cheers for this tutorial (I have bookmarked it for future reference in case I forget how to do it (which WILL happen!)). Great for modders or mad players. :)

* I always forget how to add cars and parts to SLRR 2.2.1 MWM/Stage 1 Compilation. *

I have the SLRR 2.2.1 MWM but I have a problem with installing the cars when I put thefiles and then when I open SLREDITOR2 and when I add the directory and hit OK this error comes up - System.IO.FileNotFoundException: File not found - aka the JIT error. So would you be that good to tell me how to fix it?????

Sorry for my bad english!!!!!

@bgmotorist
to fix that right click on slrr. then click properties. click on compatibility tab. then make it compatible with windows xp service pack 3

right click on slrr editor2. click properties, compatibility tab. make it compatible with windows vista service pack 2.

Do you need to have a disc to use some of these downloads of SLRR? I keep getting errors and I have to find a disc for it to work but I don't have an SL2 disc. Help.

22.   Posted by An-Unneccesary-User   2016-08-27 19:48

So if I were running BB93s 2.2.1 and for some reason it started to crash on loading my career, even when I reinstalled it and the error.log wasn't appearing in the directory, what's the deal?
